Gong Hei Gong Hei!

It's the beginning of another new year!

I'm so looking forward to this new year... because...

FINALLY, predictions from famous geomancers (on tv, in newspapers, in emails etc) are in my favour! Muahahahaha....

Those born in the year of the Rooster are supposed to have wealth, career and most importantly, ROMANCE this year! Well, to play it safe, I bought a pot of cherry blossoms (桃花) this year... now, all I need is to wait for my 桃花 to 开花! I am so excited...

A Big Welcome to the New (Old) Zo

11 months and 20 days... that's how long it's been since I've embarked on the journey of redressing the injustice I've brought upon myself. Call it self-deceit or comfort, for a long long time, I didn't realise I was losing control over my indulgence in food. After all, at the very least, my social life was not affected or so I thought.

Well, the alarm rang when Steph, my bestest pal, announced her marriage plans. It was time to wake up from my idea. Like it or not, I had to do something about my expanding waistline, hipline, jawline etc. Gosh... I didn't realise how much I had ballooned until I compared these pictures...

OMG... why didn't anyone tell me?

14 Jan 2007. The day where I decided to dump all my bad eating habits and unhealthy lifestyle. From then now, it's gonna be just exercise and vegetables in my life. Ha. The vegetable part was just a joke. Heh.

I was serious about the exercise part though. I signed up with Planet fitness the very next week and devoted myself to at least gyming 3 times a week. Wow... it was though, really... starting on my exercise regime after stopping for 2 years. I suffered from muscle aches every time after hitting the gym. There were times where I had to bite my lips to put up with leg cramps after standing on the bus during my journey home from Suntec. After a tired and strenous 3 months, I managed to see some results. I lost 4kg!

Before I could raise my fabulous arms to shout "Victory", I was told I had to fly to the US for a business trip in 2 weeks time. Argh. There couldn't be a worse timing. I knew myself too well. I could never discipline myself to work out at the hotel's gym and keep my fingers off the sinful food there...

I put back another 2kg after 2 business trips to US. God. I was filled with guilt and on the verge of breaking down as I looked at the weighing scale. This is so wrong. I chided myself endlessly even though I knew it wouldn't help matters.

The turning point of my life came when one of my close colleague suggest I try going for slim wraps at her mum's place. She herself lost 4kg from it in 3 months. Well, I guess there's no harm giving it a try. After all, other than the excess weight I have, what else do I have to lose?

My maiden wrap turned out to be a horrific experience. The wrapping part was ok (I felt like a piece of honey baked ham though) but it was the heat of the hot blanket that was totally unbearable. My heart started pounding really fast and my entire body felt like it was burning. Aunty (my colleague's mum) finally released me from my ordeal after 40 minutes. The first question she asked me was "So how? Do you think you still wanna go on?" I hesitated for a moment. I doubted if I will ever have the willpower to go on. I don't know what got into me (perhaps I was still feeling griddy from the wrap) but I actually replied Aunty with a loud and clear, "Yes, of course!".

That answer spun off another round of change in my life. I had to knock off at 5 sharp during weekdays because I had to rush to Aunty's place for my treatment. All social life was pushed to weekends, after my morning treatment sessions. Even though I had a lot less time after starting my treatment sessions, I was able to minimise impact to my social life by planning back to back appointments.

Times of peace didn't last long though. My on time departure at the office finally caught my boss' attention and that was enough to make her feel that I had simply too much time to spare. I got loaded with a lot more work and started having a hard time juggling between work, wraps and social life. I had to participate in conference calls in the midst of my wrapping sessions and log on to complete outstanding work from home up till 1 am in the morning. To make matters worse, my savings were depleting at almost 10 times the rate of my weight loss. I wanted to give up yet was reluctant to because I already had gone this far. I fell into a state of depression.

Fortunately, Aunty didn't give up on me. She and another customer of hers (of whom became my friend cum comrade in the battle against obesity) kept me going with lots of encouragement. Thanks to them, the old Zo's back! YES!
