If not we don't have to work the next day...

Chicago: 28 Apr 2007
We dropped off a colleague who wanted to go sightseeing in the city of Chicago. The city was just like our CBD area but the buildings are much older. Red and yellow tulips were planted along the streets and were blooming beautifully. Wow. This scene doesn't happen only in Holland...
We caught a view of the famous Michigan Lake too. It was beautiful. Too bad we all had our minds set on the factory outlets. Hahaha. SP bought us to one of the largest and most popular Premium factory outlet in Wisconsin. What I remembered most about that place was perhaps the gigantic American flag flying above right at the entrance of the outlet.
We girls had wanted to develop a strategy to ensure all shops are covered since the place as so huge. Before we could get on with our so-called "strategy", we got so tempted by the magic word "SALE" waving to us in each and every one of the shops that we agreed unaniously that the best strategy was to not to have any strategy at all. See, like, grab and go!
We managed to have some proper Chinese food for lunch and it tasted great. Much better than what we had at the restaurant. Satisfying!
Time flies when you are enjoying yourself. One thing I admire about Americans is that when they say they close at 9pm, shutters get down at EXACTLY 9pm. In cases where they still have customers lingering around when it was time to close, they simply wait patiently and still continue to serve with a smile. We Singaporeans have a lot to learn from them, seriously. Shops here put up signs indicating operating hours to be from 11am to 9.30pm, but we pull our shutters and start "chasing" customers away at 9pm. (Gotta admit I was once guilty of such behaviour during one of my vacation jobs as a shop assistant.) We have a long way to go.
10pm. We arrived at our hotel. We had a joyous time sharing our buys over dinner and we can't wait to hit the factory outlets again the next day!
Chicago: 27 Apr 2007
Today the air seemed fresher, the sky seemed bluer and the grass seemed greener. All because it is FRIDAY!
We are on time to knock off today! Woohoo! Guess all the Ang Mohs were also in a Friday mood so everything went especially well and fast. We had a new addition to the team tody. He flew in from Singapore and is from the IT team. It turned out he knew 2 of the girls in my group quite well and volunteered to bring us shopping! 3 cheers for SP! Hurray!
To the nearest factory outlet- Gurnee Mills!
We girls screamed with excitement as our car ventured into the vicinity. Addidas, Nike, Levis, Polo Ralph, Timberland... We can't wait to get out of the car!
I went totally crazy for the next 4 hours. Can't remember how much I spent. I guess it doesn't matter. I totally enjoyed myself.
We actually forgot about having dinner and were only reminded when our stomachs starting growling after the mall was closed. Glad we were still in time for room service. Dinner was good even though it was cold. Poor Sharon (a close colleague from the other department) waited for me to complete my summary to have dinner together. I figured that I couldn't eat without completing that chore for the day. It's in my nature to be so responsible. Haha.
Tomorrow is another day to look forward to because... we are going shopping again!
Happy happy happy.

Chicago: 26 Apr 2007
Work ended late at 6pm today (Late: using US standard as a benchmark. You could get assassinated for working OT here okie.). I love the American culture. Headed to a Chinese restaurant highly recommended by a lot of fellow colleagues for dinner. Well, everyone who patronised it said the food was good. I beg to differ. It was just so so.
Service was extremely bad. My face was comparable to Justice Bao's throughout the entire night.
It was freezing cold at night, probably about 10 degrees? I was shivering even after I got into the car.
Back to hotel. Summary time again. Sigh. It's torturous to end each day like that.

Chicago: 25 Apr 2007
Nothing exciting happened at work. It's extremely foggy today...

One of my fellow colleague brought us to a Thai restaurant downtown for dinner. The group was craving for something hot and soupy, the perfect combination with the cold weather. I ordered a bowl of Tom Yum Udon and a plate of stir fried brocolli. The Tom Yum Udon sucked. Not spicy and not sour. It was SWEET. The rest of the day continued to suck when I received an sms from my big boss to call her. Called her back and she screamed me for not answering her calls. Tried explaining that no calls came through and there was no record of any missed calls, but she insisted calling 3 times. Well, I didn't want to argue with her. She's been this unreasonable since I know her.. and remember the golden rule? NEVER ARGUE WITH YOUR BOSS. She wanted a daily summary of what was discussed in the meeting, even though it does not concern my department. I knew it! She wanna make sure I'm working (hard too)! Argh. My entire trip is ruined.
It was straight to hotel after dinner. Summary time. I am so miserable.

Chicago: 24 Apr 2007
Woohoo! My first day at Wonderland over at the other side of the world... Gosh.. I have so many people I wanna meet (especially Xiaobai, heez.)!
Shit. I couldn't have expected a more unfortunate series of events today. My wireless network failed me (it worked for all my colleagues) and I had to be "separated" from my other colleagues to get connected via a network cable.
"C'mon! It's not that bad! At least you got it fixed.." most of you will think. Yeah. Right. This would have saved my day if not for the chatter monster sitting next to me who couldn't even spare me 5 mins of peace and quiet. And I couldn't get in contact with Xiaobai! Argh.
Jet lag set in in the afternoon. It was TERRIBLE. I can't wait to hit the sack.
5pm. Time to go home (I mean, back to hotel)! Wow... all of a sudden I was totally awake. What jet lag? Oops.
Had a not so exciting dinner consisting of pizza and lasagne at the nearby mall. Yawns.
Bought a ring from Aldo at a discounted rate of only USD10. Happy!

Chicago- 23 Apr 2007
The first breath of air in Chicago... wow.. not too bad at all. No wonder they always say the grass is greener on the other side. I was a little groggy from the long hours on the plane (thanks to the bad food and the outdated movies on the plane). Thank God I am on first class which enabled my legs a full stretch 100% of the time. I wouldn't have made it if I was travelling on anything lesser.
Alright, so what's the first thing you need to do when you are in good old America? RENT A CAR. Oh, a couple of things to note when renting a car- (1) Rent a GPS (it really gets you around, even though it's been tested and verified that it doesn't work in Malaysia.), (2) Rent a BIG car- you'll need it to accommodate luggage which will double in size when you're leaving. Ha. I'm speaking from experience.
After an hour on the road, we arrived at the hotel. Man, I can't wait to bathe! (Imagine not bathing for like more than 24 hours. Gosh.) Some of us didn't manage to get an executive suite because the hotel was fully booked. Yeah, I think you guys would have guessed. I AM one of those who DID NOT get it. Dai sai lah.
Second thing to do in the US? GO TO THE SUPERMARKET. For what? To get groceries! the hotel doesn't have a flask for us to boil water, the only decent looking water boiling device they have is a coffee maker, and it does live up to it's purpose. The entire machine reeked of coffee. Bought 2 gallons (approximately 6 litres) of water, 2 bottles of apple juice and 100g of assorted jelly beans. I love the supermarket here! It's like 2 times of carrefour with not even half of the crowd.
Met up with the other group who came via Tokyo in the evening for dinner at a Japanese restaurant. It was interesting watching the Teppanyaki chefs entertain us and other guests. Both food and service was good. Thanks, KW.
Great way to end the day!

It worked for my colleague okie! (she knew her current husband, got married and pregnant all in less than a year.) Wah lau! Is Cupid on leave or deliberately missing arrows when it comes to me?
Friday, April 06, 2007
I am feeling extra chirpy today.
Finally, I'm going on my U.S. trip at the end of the month! It was previously scheduled in Jan, but got pushed back due to the delay of the project. I'm glad plans got confirmed. I'm coming, Xiaobai!

Retail Therapy
The once all-time-favourite hangout place during JC days... We started reminiscing the old days...
"Hah? You mean the BK is gone? Now change to Old xxxxx Kee???!!!!"
"Ah? What happened to Kenny Rxxxxx?"
"2 foodcourts in 1 mall? Siao ah?"
"OMG! Where is the printing shop where we had our class T-shirts printed? How come become LJS?"
Darn. I feel so OLD already.
Parted with Piggy around 6pm and guess what? The shopping bug got me and I decided to head down to Parkway for more therapy!
Wow... I am so glad I went because... GOT PASAR MALAM THERE! Muahaha. Haven't been to a pasar malam for a long time already sia. My favourite Taiwanese sausages, chicken wings and Ramly Burgers, here I come! Ehem, at this moment, how hard I had worked out at the gym last night did not matter anymore. Now, it is stomach over mind... hah.
Oh oh oh, and there was a pyjamas stall selling cheap yet not cheap looking pyjamas! Oh man... this pasar malam should have come before my pyjamas party mah!
More shopping as I ventured further to explore the shopping centre. WOW... sale here, sale there, sale everywhere!!! Things are not looking too good for my wallet indeed. Heh heh.
My conquests of the day:
A demin skirt,
A part of shoes,
A small birthday gift,
A top for work,
A pair of pants,
A set of pyjamas,
6 pairs of ankle socks and
1 working cum gym bag (which was bought with the help of Piggy at Robinsons some days ago).
Total damage to wallet: S$180. (I am so glad my Mum doesn't read my blog.)

Farm Visit
So, Piggy came up with a real cool suggestion... A farm visit! Wow... time to get our green fingers working! Maybe we could grow strawberries, papayas, cabbages or some Cai Xin!
Here we go!
The more than an hour long journey all the way from the east of the island to the west did not dampen our spirits at all. I should feel kinda ashamed as I blog about this, but without this farm visit, I would never have known how the Lot 1 Shopping Centre at Choa Chu Kang looked like. Hahaha.
We took the shuttle bus from Choa Chu Kang interchange direct to our destination-- Farmart. Oh, for those of you who are interested to visit, take note that the shuttle bus is not FREE oh... Single trip fare is S$0.50 per person. The three of us almost embarassed ourselves by trying to get a 霸王 ride.
So... how did the expediation turn out in the end? Let the pictures speak for themselves...
Ehem, the empty spaces in the mini-bus depicts how "ulu" Farmart is. (In fact, we are the only people on the bus, other than the driver, of course.)

Nice shuttle bus... could be better utilised actually.

Corny Signage

They have prawn fishing ponds here...

What got PP so "terrified"?

Zoomed in to show how "terrified" she was...

HE!!! (Or she? Seriously, I have no idea...)

More Goats! More Smell! Less PP...

Very Eager Ra-ra(s).

A very self- absorbed Ra-ra.

My mum might find this view nostalgic.

There is a rather nice place to chill out where they serve food and wines (mainly from Australia). The restaurant dons on great lighting after the sun sets. It could have been rather romantic, but well, I went with Piggy and PP... not to forget the occassional smell from our dear friends the wind carried from the barn just 100 metres away.
Conclusion: Nice place to get in touch with a little man made nature. You might be able to retrieve some lost childhood jostling for the animals attention with toddlers and pre-schoolers.

Sigh. I really wish I could just drop everything and go. No more life-threatening emails, no more late hours in the office, no more disgusting "neighbour" at work.

Double Mishaps
Going back, I was yakking and yakking to Steph until I sensed something wrong... my cab was running fast on the expressway until I heard some strange noises and it started slowing down. I turned to look at my cabby and saw that he had turned white. He stammered and asked, "Miss, can.. can... can.. you see... see see... that.. that.. that.. woman in white in the middle of the road?"
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha. Okies, sorray. I'm joking. Can't help but try to be funny... kekeke.
Anyway, that was not what happened lah. Muahaha.
Alright, my cab was running fast on the expressway until I heard some strange noises. And my cab started slowing down (all these still stand) but what happened next was not a ghostly encounter. Rather, my cab broke down. Well well well, all of you might go "Chey!" right? Cuse me, may I do a poll, how many would see having your cab break down in the middle of the expressway in the middle of the night as a usual encounter (of course unless compared to a ghostly one lah)? Damn. I swear I sweared.
Thankfully, my cabby was nice enough to hail another on-coming cab on the expressway, and this other cabby was also nice enough to pull over. Cabby 1 told me that he could handle it, so I happily (may I reinforce- HAPPILY) hopped on to Cab 2. To further reinforce, I HAPPILY told Steph over the phone that I saved $6! Because I did not pay Cab 1. Woohoo~ There I was, happily in Cab 2, happily home, happily contented with saving $6 and as I HAPPILY start to prepare to pay Cab 2 (I was reaching my place)....
WHERE THE HELL IS MY LAPTOP?
Oh my God. Till today, as I look back and blog about this, I can't believe my stupidity and carelessness man. I left my laptop in Cab 1 (and if you remember, this was the cab which I had happily saved my SIX dollars on)
Shucks. The next logical thing to do was to go back and look for Cab 1, in Cab 2. I thought Cab 1 should be still stuck on the expressway waiting for the tow truck, so, it would just be a back and forth kinda thing. Yep, my worst nightmare came true when I failed to find Cab 1 along the expressway where it had broken down earlier. "Damn, don't tell me tow truck so fast come hor..." I thought.
NOW, this spate of events is really driving me crazy. First my cab broke down, then I luckily hopped on to another cab without my company laptop, and now Cab 1 is gone, together with my laptop! All within 20- 30 minutes! Bloody hell.
Luckily, Cab driver 2 could remember which company Cab 1 was from, and I immediately called and narrated this rather absurd happening to the customer service officer. She probably had heard more absurd stories, I must say, she doesn't sound surprised at all.
The night finally ended when I managed to find Cab 1 (turned out he had forcefully drove his cab to a more deserted area where there was less traffic, or so he claimed) and retrieved my laptop via Cab 3.
And, I paid Cab 1 the $6, which was the meter fare until it broke down.
Sigh.
Fare from Wonderland until Cab 1 broke down: $6,
Fare from TPE till home (including round trip to look for Cab 1 at TPE) on Cab 2: $12.60.
Fare from home to deserted road to pick up laptop from Cab 1: $11.20.
Lesson learnt: PRICELESS.

UPDATES: END MAY TO NOW
So many things have happened over the past few months. Looking back, I realised how much I have to update on.
Well, be prepared for a rather long entry... Not in chronological order though.
(1) Promotion at work- Beg Aug
Got my first promotion of my lifetime in Aug. Emmm... the excitement's worn off already, but still, I'm glad my hard work and committment is recognised.
(2) Fell in and Out of Love- Jan to Aug
Well, not exactly in love I would say, but I had a crush on someone and would say that everything between us went rather well at the beginning but the same old unfortunate ending happened as it always did. It was probably just wishful thinking of my part. Even though it didn't end the way I wished it would, wonderful memories worth treasuring still remained. Damn, I am one optimistic girl.
(3) Hongkong Trip- End May
I spent like 2 hours trying to load all my pictures and getting them to be the right size and guess what? I am losing my patience with PhotoBucket! So slow leh! I give up. Will update more on this trip over the weekend.
(4) Farewell to "n" Colleagues- Jun to Aug
4 colleagues from my department had left after I came back from Hongkong. Sigh. There was a merger between my department and another. Well, as expected, this change brought about more farewell lunches. 4 more colleagues went. And another one to go. Damn. These farewell lunches are becoming a weekly event. Nevertheless, I am happy for all those who left for greener pasture. All the best to all of them!
(5) My 25th Birthday- July
I would have so much to blog about on this day. But since I didn't and it's long over and I've lost all the true emotions I've felt on that day... I'll have to wait for next year then. Shucks. This will teach me a lesson for not updating my blog real time. Argh!
Thanks to all friends and family for all the well wishes! Muacks!

Hot Yoga- Very Hot Sia!
Ever heard of hot yoga? I had a go at it on Monday at Bikram Yoga in Cityhall. Check out their website at http://www.bikramyoga.com/.
I only have a piece of advice for all first timers- VERY HOT SIA!
Wah lau... I must say, it was the most traumatic experience since I started working. Never have I felt so physically challenged. Hot Yoga, as its name suggests, meant doing Yoga in a hot room at 40 degrees celsius. Imagine doing all the "stunts" in a sauna room. Just 15 mins into the class, I felt dizzy and nauseous already. Imagine, the entire class was to last for 90 donkey minutes! *faintz*
Anyway, I did what I could, so as not to waste the walk in rate of $40. Every 5 mins, I would sit down and rested like 10 mins. I only felt that I was breathing and alive through the 10 mins breaks. As soon as I stood up, I started blacking out. Basically, I couldn't even stand properly, not to mention doing any "stunts". Well, I'm not a very flexible person to start off with.
It only adds on to my pain that my instructor spoke with a real strong Indian accent. "Frenchman, Frenchman. Look at the Frenchman. " he spoke. I thought, "Where got Angmoh in my class? Siao ah? Only 4 students mah, 1, 2, 3, 4... all Chinese leh... don't tell me he saw someone whom I didn't see hor..." It was when he frantically pointed to the mirror in front that I realised that,
FRENCHMAN= FRONT MIRROR!
Argh.. as if I pek chek enough. Tamade.
The entire 90 mins was like eternal hell. For the first time in my life, I thought I was going to die (Okie, apart from the ordeal 10 years ago where I was stuck with a 6 hour hill trek with no water). By the time the class ended, I was an entire wreck. Messy hair, dizzy head, overwhelming nauseousness and wobbly legs. What the hell.
Most pathetically, after everything, I failed to lose any weight, did not feel healthier, still couldn't sleep well at night and, now my entire body's aching!
No more hot yoga for me.

I just don't understand why you have to talk to me in circles. If you have anything that you are so f***ing unhappy about, have the guts to tell me straight in the face. IF, the situation would remain status quo even after your tremendous efforts to rephrase words into hidden meanings then in circles, probably you wanna consider shutting up?
I'm sick of all your childish efforts to place your intented messages into strings of unintelligible words. If it has ever crossed your bloody minute and rusty brain that I am just another sweet little lamb who shudders and suffers in silence against your verbal insults, YOU ARE SO WRONG!
I sincerely hope you fall into a smelly drain.
Wednesday, April 05, 2006
I've been missing a bit on blogging because I was "busy" settling some emotional issues at work. Don't wanna talk about it much here. Will cause too much of controversy.
It's kinda hard and there were umpteen times when I just feel like giving up. But, everytime I turn to backing out and surrendering, my inner voice would go, "No! Don't fall into the traps of such callous people!" The more I think about it, the more advices I get from close friends, I just got more determined to fight back.
Arghhhhh.... I'm thinking about my golden turtle again.
